Consistent high-level classroom etiquette ensures that all students get the most out of their time spent with Los Gatos Ballet and enhances the professional atmosphere of our studio as a whole. Maintaining this high-level etiquette will help discipline students to function in a variety of dance settings including auditions, workshops, college-level dance and/or company classes and will help them stand out as a dance professional.
Please be respectful of your instructors and fellow classmates. The dance studio is not a time for socializing, please don't talk, joke or whisper with classmates.
Take pride in your school, your teacher, your classmates and yourself and remember that the art of dance demands discipline and self-control.
Please focus on the instructor when they are speaking. Listening carefully is a critical part of the learning experience.
Remember all corrections apply to all students. Students should not correct each other.
At the end of class, it is appropriate to thank your instructor. Remember respect goes a long way.
How to put your hair in a bun
You will need:
- Brush or comb
- Covered elastic ponytail holder
- Hair pins (the long U shaped pins)
- Bobby pins
- Hair net (match the color of your hair)
- Hair spray and/or gel
- Neatly brush hair into a gathered tight ponytail at the back of the head. Secure with elastic ponytail holder. (Note: Some people benefit from dampening hair with water before putting it in a ponytail.) Ponytail holder should be big enough to go around at least 3 times and remain snug.
- Twist the ponytail, coil the twist around itself putting in hair pins as you go, catching the underside of the bun and some hair closest to the head. (It should look like a cinnamon roll) Tuck the end under.
- Put hair net on.
- Use hair pins to secure.
- Use bobby pins to secure short hair around the face and neck.
- Finish with hairspray or gel
Foot and Shoe Care
- Tights or socks should be worn in shoes to prevent blistering, excessive break down of shoes and odor.
- Let pointe shoes dry out after wearing. It is advisable to alternate pairs of shoes to sustain the life of the pointe shoe.
- To prevent blisters, wear tape or jelly toes.
- Blister care: clean blister with Hydrogen Peroxide, apply Neosporin and cover with a bandaid.
- Do not wear dance shoes outside of the studio.
Dance Bag Contents
- Sewing Kit: including scissors, needle, thread, jet glue.
- Hair Kit: bobby pins, hair pins, hair net, pony tail holder, brush, hairspray or gel.
- Foot Care Kit: (for dancers on Pointe) bandaides, toe tape, gel pads, Neosporin
- All styles of shoes that may be required for classes or rehearsals.
- Extra tights and leotard incase of emergency.
- Deodorant and feminine supplies as needed.
- Appropriate warm-up attire.
